Describe the electric field intensity near an isolated point charge

1-

A useful expression for the electric field intensity due to an isolated point charge Q may be obtained as follows: Imagine a small positive charge q placed at a distance s from Q. The force between these charges, by Coulomb’s law, is

From the definition

Since electric field intensity is a vector quantity, the resultant of two or more field intensities is obtained by taking the vector sum of the various field intensities. When there are a number of charges near appoint, the electric field intensity at the point is obtained by taking the vector sum of component intensities.
