SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)

Critical Reading :- The Critical Reading section of the SAT is made up of three scored sections: two 25-minute sections and one 20-minute section, with varying types of questions, including sentence completions and questions about short and long reading passages.

Writing: - The writing section of the SAT has multiple choice questions and a brief essay. The essay subscore contributes 28% towards the total writing score, with the multiple choice questions contributing 70%.

ACT (American College Testing)

English: - The first section is the 45-minute English test which covers usage/mechanics and rhetorical skills. The 75-question test set consists of five passages with various sections underlined on one side of the page and options to correct the underlined portions on the other side of the page. More specifically, questions focus on usage and mechanics - issues such as commas, apostrophes, modifiers, the colons, and fragments and run-ons - as well as on rhetorical skills - style, strategy, transitions, and organization.

Reading:- The 35-minute, 40-question reading section has reading comprehension in four passages, one representing prose fiction , another representing social science, a third representing humanities, and the last representing natural science, in that order.

Writing: - The optional writing section is 30 minutes long. Essays must be written in response to a given prompt.

GRE (Graduate Record Examination)

Verbal section: - The verbal section has analogies, completions, and reading comprehension passages. Multiple-choice response sections are marked on a scale of 200-800, in 10-point increments. In a typical examination, this section may consist of 30 questions, and 30 minutes may be given for it.

Analytical writing section: - The analytical writing section has two different essays, an "issue task" and an "argument task". The writing section is marked on a scale of 0-6, in half-point increments. The essays are written on a computer using a word processing program.

Issue task: - The student will be able to choose between two topics upon which to write an essay. The time allotted for this essay is 45 minutes.

Argument task: - The student will be given an "argument" and will be asked to write an essay that critiques the argument. The time allowed for this essay is 30 minutes.

GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test)

Analytical Writing Assessment: - The Analytical Writing Assessment section of the test has two essays. In the first, the test taker must analyze an argument and in the second the student must analyze an issue. Each essay must be written within 30 minutes and is graded on a scale of 0-6.

Verbal Section:- The verbal section has 41 multiple choice questions, which must be answered within 75 minutes. There are 3 types of questions: sentence correction, critical reasoning, and reading comprehension. The verbal section is graded from 0 to 60 points.

Sentence Correction: - The Sentence Correction section tests a student’s knowledge of American English grammar, usage, and style.

Critical Reasoning: - Critical thinking items present an argument that the student is asked to analyze. Questions may ask student to draw a conclusion, to identify assumptions, or to recognize strengths or weaknesses in the argument.

Reading Comprehension: - The GMAT consists reading passages of approximately 200 to 350 words, covering topics from social sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences, and business. Each passage has three or more questions. The questions ask about the main point of the passage, about what the author specifically states, about what can be logically inferred from the passage, and about the author's attitude etc.
